TURKEY SEASON

The holiday season is nearly upon us. Now is the time for pumpkin spice flavored goodies, cool air, and the growing anticipation of that beloved holiday dish; fried turkey.  Texans love their fried turkey and it shows, on a national level. According to Fox News, Texas ranks first in accidents associated with frying turkeys.

In an effort to bring down those numbers, we’d like to offer a few helpful tips so that your next turkey fry will go off without a hitch.

Make sure you fry outside. If anything does happens, make sure you’re away from your home and or materials that can catch on fire.

Watch that bird. Never leave the bird in the fryer unattended.

Thaw the bird. Make sure it’s completely thawed before you fry it.

Take Additional Safety Precautions. Wear proper frying gear; apron and mitts. Make sure to have a fire extinguisher present in order to put out any fires.

Frying food is a serious undertaking and should be handled with every precaution. Fires that are a result of said activity are, more times than not, preventable.
